Reports relative to a slave-hunting party led by Don Ramon Maria Dominguez of the city of Trinidad.
2006.003.0006
1847 – 1848
Contains 8 separate reports written on 17 pages of various size. "A chilling series of reports by Juan Herrera Davilla, the military governor of Trinidad, made to Captain-General Gral in Havana regarding an armed party of vigilantes with dogs. Thier quarry was a group of "Negros cimarrones" in the area of Rio Aquacate (cimorron means wild or untamed). In fact these were slaves who had escaped and were living in caves in the mountains, occasionally stealing food from nearby plantations. The rebels were said to have fought savagely with machetes. The leader of the hunting party is quoted in one of the reports to have fired various shots and taken "orejas"- ears."
