Nuestra Señora de Atocha (1622)
The right femur from a pig (Sus scrofa) comes from the wreck of the 1622 galleon Nuestra Señora de Atocha. This bone was likely part of a preserved ham carried on board as part of the ship’s provisions, although it could have also come from a live pig that was to be butchered for fresh meat at sea. This bone is 22 centimeters long.
