Nuestra Señora de Atocha (1622)

Silver ingot number 175 (note the CLXXV Roman numeral mark) recovered from the 1622 galleon Nuestra Señora de Atocha. This ingot was cast at the Andean silver mining city of Oruro in today’s Bolivia. The ingot was being shipped to Spain by A. de Aguirre for A. de Legaso. Legaso’s personal mark – the starred “L” – is prominent on the face of the bar. Dimensions: 39.3 cm (L) x 12.3 cm (W) x 6.2 cm (H) x 33.68 kg (74.25 lbs).
